It all feels incredibly smooth, and it’s easy to get lost in simply exploring this wide open world. The former helps you launch yourself into the air every time you hit any of the many floating targets scattered throughout the game, while the latter helps you glide and soar up to higher areas. You control an archer with an eagle companion, and even though you start off on foot, as you progress through the game you soon learn that the best way to move around is to take advantage of both your bow and arrow and your eagle. In other words, The Pathless is the latest in a line of games from a developer who knows how to make characters move in the most fluid, balletic way imaginable.Īnd you see that throughout this game.

Giant Squid’s last game was Abzû, and thatgamecompany is most famous for games like Journey and Flower. After all, it was developed by Giant Squid, who were founded by a few people who used to work at thatgamecompany. I wish it did a bit more with its characters and surprised me a little more with its plot and level design, but there’s no denying the uncanny ability of Flying Wild Hog to capitalize on and squeeze every last bit of possible fun out of just a few cool ideas, and that ability is certainly on display here.It should come as no surprise that the best thing about The Pathless is how your character moves. Being pretty firmly from the latter camp myself, I’d say this is one of the better action games of the year. But, if you are more concerned with just enjoying a solid action game that isn’t afraid to do it’s own thing in a few ways, and beats you over the head with the small handful of things it does well while respecting your time and wrapping up right about when it should, then Evil West is a great choice. Neither of which fundamentally change the game. That math doesn’t really work out in the game’s favor, and there’s not much replay value outside of a half-baked co-op mode that doesn’t let player 2 save their game, and a new game plus. If you’re one of those gamers whose primary concern is the sheer amount of content per dollar, then maybe wait for a sale. Thoughts- Do I recommend Evil West? Well, at this point, I suspect you already know if this is your type of game or not.
